Essential for DNA synthesis, cell division and fetal development. Crucial during pregnancy. The active form is 5-MTHF (methylfolate).

MANDATORY. 400-800mcg to prevent neural tube defects. Methylfolate preferred

💡 Absorption: Methylfolate (5-MTHF) is the active form, especially for people with MTHFR mutation.
⚠️ Caution: Do not exceed 1000mcg synthetic without supervision. May mask B12 deficiency.
Recommended doses
Range: 400 – 1000 mcg
Start at least 1 month before conception
Range: 200 – 800 mcg
RDA: 400mcg. Methylfolate preferable to synthetic folic acid
⚕️ Medication interactions
Folic acid can reduce some side effects of methotrexate but may also partially diminish its therapeutic efficacy.
